About Me
My own experiences with grief, loss, and trauma have absolutely propelled my drive to sit with others, witness their pain, and support their healing. I’m passionate about sitting with others who’ve felt “less than” or like they don’t belong. I see strength and resiliency in every client I work with, and believe that you’re the expert in your own life. I believe in openness, curiosity, and humour as essential parts of healing.
One of the things I'm most passionate about is supporting adults with ADHD. I offer a neurodiversity affirming approach to therapy that attends to the grief, anger, and internalized messages that folks may struggle with. My approach is based on the foundational belief that people are the experts in their own lives, and my role is to support you in untangling and discovering your own voice/desires/abilities. I genuinely see the good in everyone and hope to work collaboratively with you to make more meaning in your life. Ultimately, we work together to find what works for you on your unique journey to create meaningful change.
Creating a place where you feel seen, heard, and understood allows you to be brave and face challenges with resiliency and strength. Our work together isn't full of blame or shame, but is enriched by your perspectives/preferences. We collaboratively rewrite aspects of your life story in the past, present, and future.
I integrate narrative therapy, feminist approaches, mindfulness-based approaches, Hakomi, EMDR, sensorimotor psychotherapy, solution-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy. I believe in making clients feel comfortable and safe, and I like to approach the therapeutic relationship with openness, curiosity, and humour.
I’m a mom to two young boys and have experienced gaps in the system when it comes to support for new parents. My own experience with birth trauma motivated me to seek further education on supporting pregnant and birthing individuals and new parents. I’m also passionate about helping those who have experienced anxiety, grief and loss in this area as well. I also have an interest in men’s issues, as well, and now that I have two young boys of my own, I feel an even stronger pull to support men who are struggling. I hope to have at least a small part in creating a world for my boys where they can lean into their vulnerability as humans and express themselves more freely.
In my free time, you can catch me watching movies or binging shows, doing yoga, trying to keep up with Peloton cycling classes, or reading nerdy or inspiring books. During the summer, I love paddleboarding, camping, and making white chocolate s’mores over the campfire!
Professional Background
I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts degree, double-majoring in Psychology and Anthropology. I later completed my Master’s of Counselling degree through Athabasca University. I’ve also worked with various populations, including those with developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, post-secondary students, and seniors with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
I started as a Registered Provisional with the College of Alberta Psychologists in 2017 and have since completed additional training to further my knowledge. I’ve completed training and certifications in advanced play therapy, theraplay, circle of security, hakomi, sensorimotor psychotherapy, the grief recovery method, and solution-focused therapy.
I’ve also completed training in maternal mental health (through Postpartum Support International (PSI)), parent-child attachment relationships, supporting children’s recovery from trauma/abuse, therapy for young children (as young as 4), and support/education for caregivers. I approach my role as a Registered Provisional Psychologist with empathy and non-judgmental curiosity. Many people who connect with my work feel overwhelmed and may be realizing that the ways they have learned to cope are not helping them move forward. I understand how heavy life's pressures can feel at times, and I am curious about who you are and what you may need to find a new path forward. Sometimes this means working through the ways you are thinking or the things you are doing. Other times, this may mean deconstructing past experiences you have had, or systems that are present in our world today that are impacting you. Whatever the direction, I personalize my work with all clients and ensure supportive collaboration is always present during our time together.
People tend to connect with my practice when they are navigating through anxiety, grief, trauma, chronic illness, and life transitions. My clients often seek a space where they can explore not only what challenges them, but also what is important to them. Many of my clients seek clarity around what might be out of alignment in their lives and desire reconnection with what they value most. You may be looking for not only relief and reconnection, but also new ways of living that feel authentic to who you are.
One of the interesting things about therapeutic work is that there are many ways to approach change and growth. In consideration of this, I integrate approaches from different therapeutic models to tailor support to your intentions and aspirations. I often utilize approaches from Narrative Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to deconstruct the systems and ways of living that keep people feeling stuck. I use these approaches to foster a healing reconnection to yourself so that new ways of living and resilience can be discovered and unfold. When clinically appropriate, I use ERP to help people living with anxiety, OCD, and phobias build a greater capacity to manage their anxiety and live their lives despite feeling fear
Though I work with people from many different backgrounds, I am particularly passionate about supporting caregivers in our community. Whether you are a parent, friend or family member of someone managing an illness, or working in a helping profession, I understand the weight you may be carrying. As a caregiver myself, I find a lot of meaning in helping other caregivers process the influence of their role on their lives and build resilience so they can live well while helping others.
Reconnecting with yourself is a route to healing. Our work is more about uncovering your knowledge and less about my imparting mine. I am here to support you in discovering this with compassion and care, and perhaps some humour along the way. Together, we can explore the change that is meaningful to you.

Jaclyn Prouse (she/her)
My position as a therapist is centred around a deep respect for the understanding that every person has a story. I aim to create a therapeutic space where your personal story is genuinely honoured with curiosity and compassion. My life experiences and previous work as an academic tutor and community outreach volunteer have shown me the importance of considering the impact of social, relational, and personal factors on mental health and empowerment. I bring a passion for evidence-based practice to my work, recognizing that therapy is a deeply personal endeavour that cannot be limited to a one-size-fits-all approach. I integrate elements of narrative therapy with feminist and sociocultural approaches to support clients in creating a personally meaningful journey of healing. I aim to create an empathic, nonjudgmental, and collaborative space where your experiences are heard and your hopes for your life are empowered. If you are struggling with anxiety, trauma, daily life stress, or simply need a space to be heard, I would be honoured to be a part of your story.

As a therapist, I believe in allowing things to be as complicated as they are. I strive to show up as warm, genuinely caring, and authentic in the therapy room. I meet people where they’re at in their journey, and for a lot of us, that means not oversimplifying the at-times-contradictory experiences of being human. Our work together may involve making sense of experiences by re-telling your story in the context of your values, skills, and preferences. Do you easily forget what was talked about, even in a great therapy session? In narrative therapy, my primary modality, we may also create some therapeutic documents (co-written documents for you to keep about the work we do together!), and I may write you some therapeutic letters as a part of our process (if desired). As a queer person myself, I am especially passionate about supporting LGBTQ2S+ clients, and I work from a queer theory lens, which means for clients of all genders and sexualities, we might question the origins, helpfulness, and intentions of “I am not good/normal/productive enough” stories. I strive to create a neurodiversity-affirming space, meaning you are welcome to express yourself comfortably and authentically. You can bring your (special) interests into therapy; they can be an excellent site for us to understand together what is most important to you!
